I, Jonathan Whitcomb, explored part of Umboi Island in 2004; in this part of Papua New Guinea, the large flying creature with no feathers is called "ropen." It is much larger than the Flying Fox fruit bat, which the natives call "byung." The ropen is different, having a long tail. Some of those I interviewed include these natives: Gideon Koro, Jonah Jim, David Moke, Michael, Mark Kau.
